The subject matter of this painting was somewhat in doubt in our minds - although the title claims it to be Plato, the appearance of the center teacher, and the fact there are 12 students, reminds one much more of Jesus. On the other hand, who (at this time) would have dared paint the 12 apostles looking like they do in this painting? |
