Tour Eiffel Concert

We arrived at the Tower not sure where the concert would be. The last one had been up near Trocadero, but this time all we could see was a demonstration, I think by the people China keeps trying to suppress. Finally we worked out it was set up so the eiffel tower would be in the background of the performers and off we went.

It was a little on the difficult side to see, but there were giant video screens, so once you found a place where you could see over people's heads you were fine.

In the center is, I'm fairly certain, a photo of Daniel Powter. He didn't know a lot of French, but he knew the word for 'sing' (chantez!). His audience, it would seem, didn't know a lot of English (or didn't know his song). So he tried to get them to sing along, and each time got more... emphatic about wanting people to sing along. The first verse didn't work, and he said something like 'ok - next time I really mean it!' The final verse, when it was clear that it wasn't going to happen, he tried by brute force - 'chantez, you mother f...'.

There was a photo posted of one of the French hostages in Iraq. On the right is Jenifer, a French singer who always seems to have catchy tunes (and the hat was nice).

According to the announcer there were 150,000 people at the tower. We decided not to try the metro, so we walked a good distance (to the Arc de Triomphe) before getting on the metro. Having been at the Eiffel Tower for big parties before (New Year's of 2004) we knew what the crowds would be like.
