Beaujolais Nouveau 2003

Le Pere la Grolle
This wine ran about €4 ($4.80) per bottle, and so far is the best of the bunch. The flavor of black cherries was amazingly strong in this one, and although the tannins were, of course, absent, the wine still tasted full.

Edouard Angenault
This wine ran about €2.70 ($3.25) per bottle. The flavor was still full of cherries, but there was also a sharpness about the wine, reminding me somewhat of a Cote du Rhone.

Georges DuBoeuf - Beaujolais Villages Nouveau
Note this is different from the Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau.
This wine ran about €4 ($4.80) per bottle, and although closer in flavor to Le Pere la Grolle (currently my favorite), it seemed a little watery. As I noted, Le Pere la Grolle tasted full despite the lack of tannins. This wine seemed not as full, and suffered in comparison.

Fauchon
This wine ran about €5 ($6.00) per bottle, and was a totally different type of wine - more of a 'serious' wine with a lower fruit decibel level, but a deeper overall flavor. We compared it to a very fruity Chateauneuf du Pape, rather than another Beaujolais Nouveau. That said, however, it didn't have the 'fun factor' the other wines had, with their straight out fruit flavors.

d'Autrefois
It was noted in the store shortly after we purchased this one that it had won a silver medal in a competition. Unlike the others this is made in the 'old style', unfiltered. Its taste is almost effervesant - seemingly sparkly, a very different taste from the others. If you get the chance, try this wine. Even if you don't like it, you'll agree it's a whole different experience from any other Beaujolais Nouveau.

Bichat Preres

Tonight's wine (birds - I didn't get the name)
fruity - a little less nice on the nose than some we've had. Not as fruity as some we've had, but a very drinkable wine.

Couvais Gourmand - Alma F
Very nice wine - less fruity than some, but beautifully mature. This is another of the 'real' wines.

Jean-luc Peauteau
The trouble with having lots of good wines is that they really have to do something to distinguish themselves. This wine was perfectly good, but did nothing to particularly stand out from the many good wines we've had. Recommended, but not something to fly to Paris to have.
