I kind of want to start a blog called 'omitted variable bias' which looks at all the ways in which, before any analysis of a situation occurs, people have already made assumptions about the causes which lead to everything they say being wrong.

It's not just assumptions about causes, but just plain assumptions based on existing conditions. For instance... stock prices will always continue to rise, gas prices might go up a bit but not much, and the favorite one until recently - investing in real estate is a safe investment that will give you a great return (aka 'home prices will continue to rise'.)
